An Australian movie
Thu, 27 November 2008Everyone had such high hopes for this local movie by Australian cinema’s enfant terrible. Filmed in exotic, outback locations, depicting an old lost Australia, it took years to make.
Unfortunately it was panned by critics, performed dismally at the box office, and dragged the Australian film industry down.
Yes, for many reasons Welcome to Woop Woop is rather forgettable.
So much has been written recently about the new Baz Luhrmann epic Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. Unfortunately a lot of it is bad:
The film also seems to end at least four times, which is three times too many. Better yet, it never should have started --- Christian Science Monitor Peter Rainer
Jackman has musical-theater chops and knows how to sell material this ham-handed; Kidman isn't quite as deft. I've always admired her gumption in working so hard to overcome a certain temperamental tightness--but that tightness has now spread to her skin --- New York Magazine David Edelstein
Still, if it’s any consolation for Nicole, there is some vitriol building up for her old partner Tom Cruise in his new movie Valkyrie.
